Di ritorno per la nuotata dell'eremo

Dopo un lungo silenzio, dovuto anche a due settimane di meritate ferie, eccomi di ritorno giusto in tempo per dare assistenza alla Nuotata Dell'Eremo www.nuotatadelleremo.org. Personalmente non avevo mai assistito a una manifestazione di questo tipo, devo dire che è stato impressionante vedere una massa di 400 nuotatori così determinati e aggressivi attraversare il lago.

Approfitto del blog per una comunicazione di servizio: ho avuto problemi sul server che ospita la mia casella di posta. Se per caso qualche email inviatami vi è ritornata per piacere rimandatemela.

After a long stop i'm here to blog again. I spent two weeks in Sardinia and i got back just in time to assist to the "Nuotata Dell'Eremo", an endurance swimming competition on Lake Maggiore www.nuotatadelleremo.org. I have never seen a competition of this type, i have to say it's been really amazing.

Just an internal comunication: i experienced several problems with my mail server, if someone of you sent me some sort of email int the past two week please email me back it, i think i have lost it.

We can be heroes, just for one night.

Dopo un lungo silenzio torno finalmente a postare sul blog. Il fine settimana scorso mi ha visto impegnato con alcuni a mici nell'ODEC, One Day Elba Challenge. Un mini raduno per pochi intimi ideato e organizzato per anni dal Mitico Luciano Belloni. Da quest'anno toccherà al vostro pertpetrare questa importante tradizione. Che dirvi d'altro? 4 matti, 93km, 8 soste 22 ore per un esperienza bellissima anche se fisicamente veramente impegnativa. Ci tengo a riportare i nomi dei 3 compagni di questa avventura: Tatiata Cappucci (direttamente dalle Highlands) Andrea Bolis e Andrea Bresil.

Un grazie speciale a Luciano per aver reso possibile tutto questo e a Giorgio Nesca per averci salutato alla partenza e accolto all'arrivo!

After a long period of silence i'm back to post on the blog. The past weekend with few friends we did the ODEC, One Day Elba Challenge. This is a very small meeting of sea kayaking addicted that takes place in the Elba Island in the month of july. It had been organized for 4 years by the great Luciano Belloni, and now it's up to me to go on with the tradition of this event. What else should i say? 4 mad kayakers, 93km, 8 stops and 22hours to complete this beatifoul and devasting experience. I would like to write the names of the friends that paddled with me this experience: Tatiana Cappucci (directly from the Highlands) Andrea Bolis and Andrea Bresil.

A special thanks to Luciano Bellini that made this happen and to Giorgio Nesca. He saw the beginning and the end of this tremendous paddle.

In queste ore un manipolo di valorosi capitanati da Maurizio (in quanto nuovo organizzatore della manifestazione) sta prendendo parte alla ODEC: One Day Elba Challenge. Il giro dell'isola d'elba in un giorno.
Sono partiti stamattina intorno alle 7 e le previsioni sono di completare il giro domani mattina verso la stessa ora. Li ho sentiti alcune ore fa e il morale è alto, sono tutti in buona forma e fino ad ora va tutto abbastanza bene.
Conto di postare ancora domani mattina quando avrò conferma dell'arrivo!

In these hours Maurizio (as new "leader" of the event) and a small group of kayakers are taking part in the ODEC: One Day Elba Challenge. The tour of the Elba island done in one day. They started this morning around 7 and the plan is to complete the full tour tomorrow morning at the same hour. I got a phone call with Maurizio some hours ago and everything is quite well: I think to be able to post some news tomorrow morning when they will be arrived!

Francesco, Mauro e Tatiana hanno terminato in questi giorni la loro avventura sulle acque Scozzesi. Su loro blog AroundHighlands hanno già caricato qualche loro foto, ma tutti aspettiamo di riabbracciarli per poterci congratulare di persona con loro!

I'm still alive!

Ragazzi sono ancora vivo... abbiate pazienza ma non riesco ad aggiornare il blog molto di frequente in questo periodo. E si che di cose da dire ne avrei anche... l'incombente ODEC, il bellissimo DVD Rough Water Paddling, l'idea di andare ad Anglesy... pazienza, tutto questo dovrà aspettare. Sto cercando di fare del mio meglio per dare il massimo supporto "agli Scozzesi" ;-). A essere onesti di supporto non ne hanno proprio bisogno, però cerco di mantenermi in contatto, di aggiornare il blog e di mandargli SMS con la meteo per quanto è necessario. Voi comunque rimanete sintonizzati ;-).

Guys i'm still here... but in this period i relly have no time to post even on my blog. It's even a pity because there are several things i'd like to post about: the next Odec, the beatifoul DVD Rough Water Paddling, Anglesy... all these things must wait. At the moment i'm trying to give all my support to my "scottish" friends. I have to be honest, they don't need much support, but i try to stay in contact and update the blog every day (most of the times), for the rest i send them the weather forecast when the need it. But you have to stay tuned, i'll be back soon! ;-)

Dalle mie parti si dice "meglio tardi che mai"... ci sarebbero un migliaio di cose su cui postare: Bibione, la partenza dei nostri eroi per la Scozia, l'incipiente Lario Marathon, la futura ODEC, la mia MERAVIGLIOSA Werner Ikelos, la strepitosa Jennifer Clerk... sinceramente è stata una settimana infernale e quindi batto mestamente in ritarata salutando tutti.

Guys i think i can translate "better late than never" a common italian motto. i think i have more or less a ton of things to speak about: the Bibione meeting, the Scottish Expedition, the next Lariomarathon and the future ODEC, my WONDERFOUL Werner Ikelos, the great Jennifer Clerk.... but it's been a hell of a week at the work, so i think i'm just going home raising the white flag. Sottocosta Sea Kayaking Instructor Course Cancelled

Venerdi sera, appena arrivato al raduno di Bibione, ho purtroppo ricevuto da Sottocosta una email che mi comunicava la cancellazione del corso istruttori per quest'anno, a causa di un numero insufficiente di domande di ammissione.
Devo dire che la notizia mi ha lasciato abbastanza male, ci tenevo molto a frequentare il corso, e anche Andrea (anche lui aspirante istruttore) che era con me ha avuto la medesima reazione.
Che dire? Pazienza.. bisognerà aspettare un altro anno, sperando che l'anno prossimo si riesca a raggiungere il numero di iscrizioni necessarie.

Friday Evening, just after our arrival at the Bibione Sea Kayaking Gathering, I received an email from Sottocosta that informed me that the instructors course has been cancelled due to an insufficient number of applications.

The news has left me quite bad, and Andrea (another candidate instructor) who was with me had the same reaction.
We must wait another year, hoping that next year we'll be more.

Weekend Sullacqua

Il weekend che si è appena concluso ha sancito l'inaugurazione della stagione di Sullacqua, con l'inaugurazione della nuova sede, bagnata da abbondante birra (forse anche troppa per il sottoscritto) e salamelle alla griglia.
Sabato alcune persone hanno provato l'esperienza del Kayak da Mare, e seguiti dagli istruttori presenti hanno fatto un giro sottocosta nelle vicinanze.
Per me e gli altri 3 aspiranti istruttori presenti invece è stata giornata di esercizi.. quindi abbiamo provato le principali manovre, gli autosalvataggi (in roll e con paddlefloat) e qualche eskimo.
Siamo poi stati raggiunti da Maurizio che con la sua solita pazienza ;) ci ha aiutato a correggere alcuni errori.
La serata è proseguita con l'abbondante grigliata, interrotta sul finire dalla pioggia: un manipolo di valorosi si è quindi riparato sotto la veranda del camper di Luka e ha proseguito fino a notte fonda l'attività di svuotamento delle bottiglie di birra.
La domenica si è svolta una gita nei dintorni, bagnata da un po' di pioggia e infine con i saluti.

This weekend we have been to the party for the start of the season for Sullacqua, with lot of beer (maybe too much for me) and grilled meal.
Saturday some people had the chance to try to paddle, with the support of the Sullacqua Instructors.
Me and the 3 others kayakers that will attend to the Selection for the Instructor Course on the 23th of this month tried together all the required exercise (Braces, Paddling, Rescue, Eskimo..).
Maurizio (with is legendary self control), helped us to correct some errors.
The evening continued with the grill&beer dinner, ended with the rain, so some valiant boys moved under the tent of Luka's caravan, to continue the job of empty beer bottles.
Sunday we had a trip on the lake, with a bit of rain.

Corso Istruttori

Al mio ritorno dalle porquerolles, forse più belle a vela che in kayak, ho trovato ad attendermi una gradita e attesa notizia: è stato pubblicato il bando per il Corso Istruttori Sottocosta, che si terrà i giorni 23, 24 e 25 maggio a Bracciano (Roma). La grande notizia è che il satanico Gottazord, di sua spintanea volontà parteciperà al suddetto corso!
Un manipolo di impavidi supporter è già pronto alla partenza per sostenerlo durante questa dura prova! Ovviamente non mancheremo di tenervi aggiornati.

Back from Porquerolles i found a happy and long awaited news: The announcement for the Sottocosta Sea Kayaking Instructor is out! It's a good news because my friend Marco is seriously considering to try the course. The course will take place in Bracciano (Rome) and i think i will go there too, to meet some friends and mostly to support Marco ;-). If you want to read more (in italian) www.sottocosta.it.

Porquerolles - andata e ritorno

La nostra trasferta alle porquerolles si è conclusa felicemente ieri sera. Purtroppo oggi non riesco a scrivere un post veramente descrittivo di questa tre giorni.... spero nel prezioso supporto di Tatiana per questo ;-).

La vera vacanza è iniziata giovedì sera a Legnano, in piscina. Li un manipolo di valorosi kayaker marini ha tentato di resistere allo strapotere dei fluviali... che al termine di un confronto abbastanza maschio hanno prevalso, seppur di stretta misura. Dopo l'abituale sosta in birreria partiamo alla volta della nostra meta: l'arcipelago delle Porquerolles!

Ci fermiamo poco prima del confine francese per qualche ora di sonno, al risveglio sosta in autogrill e relativa colazione luculliana. Il trasferimento richiede poi ancora qualche ora (e numerosi salassi delle autostrade francesi!!!) comunque verso mezzogiorno finalmente riusciamo a imbarcarci. Nel pomeriggio non facciamo molti km in kayak, la stanchezza si fa sentire e una volta sbarcati sull'isola di Porquerolle decidiamo di non ripartire. La serata prosegue con il sottoscritto che piglia a calci ricci e la gentilissima Tatiana che tenta di porre rimedio estraendo le nuove spine che fanno bella mostra di se nel mio piede destro. Risultato? tentando di anestetizzarmi finisco ubriaco come un cane (ma sul serio!) e le spine rimangono al loro posto dopo una serie di turpiloqui degni di nota!

Il giorno dopo oltre ai postimi di una bella sbornia dobbiamo sorbirci un poì di maretta, io stimo vento e mare forza4. Visto che la meteo non è delle migliori decidiamo di non proseguire verso l'isola successiva dell'arcipelago (distante 8km) e completiamo il periplo dell'isola + grande piantando il campo nella spiaggia alle spalle del faro a Est. Domenica ripartiamo alla volta delle macchine, facciamo una capatina sulla costa verso ovest (veramente bella) e sbarchiamo infine verso le 18 a giens. Pizza e birra insieme e poi via! chi a montare il campo per l'ultima notte (IN CAMPEGGIO!!) e chi a rimettersi in viaggio verso casa.

Che dire? Senz'altro una bella gita, però a mio avviso non la più bella fatta in kayak negli ultimi anni.

Domani mattina di buon ora riparto per le porquerolles per una 4 giorni di barca a vela! Ci si rilegge il mese prossimo!

At least i'm here to complete this post. We had great fun at the Porquerolles. We did an early start on thursday night and spent three days paddling around the islands. I have to tell the truth: i strongly prefer the Maddalena Archipelago, north-east in Sardinia. But Porquerolles has been a very nice place to spent some days. We always camped on the beach but couldn't reach the island of Port Cross due to a moderate sea; in my mind not very comfortable for all the mates. The water was still quite cold, so we had to slow down our usual roll-fewer ;-).

What else? Have a look to the photoes! Marco added his too.

ragazzi con il solito sconvolgente, incredibile, indecente ritardo sono (siamo) in procinto di partire per le porquerolle (spero si scriva così...) dove trascorreremo tre spettacolari e selvaggi giorni di campeggio nautico. Fino a lunedì non penso di riuscire a postare qualche cosa... quindi buon we a tutti e a lunedì!
