better late than never

Dalle mie parti si dice "meglio tardi che mai"... ci sarebbero un migliaio di cose su cui postare: Bibione, la partenza dei nostri eroi per la Scozia, l'incipiente Lario Marathon, la futura ODEC, la mia MERAVIGLIOSA Werner Ikelos, la strepitosa Jennifer Clerk... sinceramente è stata una settimana infernale e quindi batto mestamente in ritarata salutando tutti.

Guys i think i can translate "better late than never" a common italian motto. i think i have more or less a ton of things to speak about: the Bibione meeting, the Scottish Expedition, the next Lariomarathon and the future ODEC, my WONDERFOUL Werner Ikelos, the great Jennifer Clerk.... but it's been a hell of a week at the work, so i think i'm just going home raising the white flag. Just two things:

Sottocosta Sea Kayaking Instructor Course Cancelled

Venerdi sera, appena arrivato al raduno di Bibione, ho purtroppo ricevuto da Sottocosta una email che mi comunicava la cancellazione del corso istruttori per quest'anno, a causa di un numero insufficiente di domande di ammissione.
Devo dire che la notizia mi ha lasciato abbastanza male, ci tenevo molto a frequentare il corso, e anche Andrea (anche lui aspirante istruttore) che era con me ha avuto la medesima reazione.
Che dire? Pazienza.. bisognerà aspettare un altro anno, sperando che l'anno prossimo si riesca a raggiungere il numero di iscrizioni necessarie.

Friday Evening, just after our arrival at the Bibione Sea Kayaking Gathering, I received an email from Sottocosta that informed me that the instructors course has been cancelled due to an insufficient number of applications.

The news has left me quite bad, and Andrea (another candidate instructor) who was with me had the same reaction.
We must wait another year, hoping that next year we'll be more.

Weekend Sullacqua

Il weekend che si è appena concluso ha sancito l'inaugurazione della stagione di Sullacqua, con l'inaugurazione della nuova sede, bagnata da abbondante birra (forse anche troppa per il sottoscritto) e salamelle alla griglia.
Sabato alcune persone hanno provato l'esperienza del Kayak da Mare, e seguiti dagli istruttori presenti hanno fatto un giro sottocosta nelle vicinanze.
Per me e gli altri 3 aspiranti istruttori presenti invece è stata giornata di esercizi.. quindi abbiamo provato le principali manovre, gli autosalvataggi (in roll e con paddlefloat) e qualche eskimo.
Siamo poi stati raggiunti da Maurizio che con la sua solita pazienza ;) ci ha aiutato a correggere alcuni errori.
La serata è proseguita con l'abbondante grigliata, interrotta sul finire dalla pioggia: un manipolo di valorosi si è quindi riparato sotto la veranda del camper di Luka e ha proseguito fino a notte fonda l'attività di svuotamento delle bottiglie di birra.
La domenica si è svolta una gita nei dintorni, bagnata da un po' di pioggia e infine con i saluti.

This weekend we have been to the party for the start of the season for Sullacqua, with lot of beer (maybe too much for me) and grilled meal.
Saturday some people had the chance to try to paddle, with the support of the Sullacqua Instructors.
Me and the 3 others kayakers that will attend to the Selection for the Instructor Course on the 23th of this month tried together all the required exercise (Braces, Paddling, Rescue, Eskimo..).
Maurizio (with is legendary self control), helped us to correct some errors.
The evening continued with the grill&beer dinner, ended with the rain, so some valiant boys moved under the tent of Luka's caravan, to continue the job of empty beer bottles.
Sunday we had a trip on the lake, with a bit of rain.

Corso Istruttori

Al mio ritorno dalle porquerolles, forse più belle a vela che in kayak, ho trovato ad attendermi una gradita e attesa notizia: è stato pubblicato il bando per il Corso Istruttori Sottocosta, che si terrà i giorni 23, 24 e 25 maggio a Bracciano (Roma). La grande notizia è che il satanico Gottazord, di sua spintanea volontà parteciperà al suddetto corso!
Un manipolo di impavidi supporter è già pronto alla partenza per sostenerlo durante questa dura prova! Ovviamente non mancheremo di tenervi aggiornati.

Back from Porquerolles i found a happy and long awaited news: The announcement for the Sottocosta Sea Kayaking Instructor is out! It's a good news because my friend Marco is seriously considering to try the course. The course will take place in Bracciano (Rome) and i think i will go there too, to meet some friends and mostly to support Marco ;-). If you want to read more (in italian) www.sottocosta.it.
