Grilliput!

As i blogged before Crhistmas has been great! At least from the gift Side. One of the gift i appreciated most is the Grilluput! Whats Grilluput?! It's a FANTASTIC PORTABLE GRILL that seems to be thought for kayaking! I haven't tested it yet, but it's really a marvel! I think this tool will let me score 7000 points in the tool competition ;-)

A friend, Stefano Deflorio, has passed me this link: http://arcticdreams.blogspot.com/2007/01/gli-ultimi-inuit.html i'm sorry but this is in italian. The article above is about the tragic destiny of the Inuit people... very sad.

Bellissima, potente, compatta e stagna fino a 5mt!

Christmas is just passed so i'm playing with many new toys! The first and most important is my adored drysuit that really changed my way of kayaking during the winter. But Santa Claus didn't stop at the Kokatat! My latest gift is the Petzl DUO LED 14! Wounderful, powerful, stilish and most important waterproof to 5mt! What else could kayaker dream about?! A Werner Ikelos! but that's another story ;-)... I hope to test my wonderful headlamp soon on the water.

Buon Natale!!

A presto
Maurizio

Guys i'd like to wish to all you, kayakers or not, a very very merry Christmas!
Let's try to eat not too much, otherwise we will have to change our boats for roomer ones ;-)
Bye and again Merry Christmas!
Maurizio

Cpt. Perlini

All'epoca una vera e propria epopea!
_______________________________________________________
Captain Perlini (also known as Mr. Pietro Dellamaria) is a great friend and a fine kayaker. With him a shared my first real steps in a more serious way to do Sea Kayaking, most of all the first rolls and the first trip around Lake Como, thinking back to it now it looked to as like a great journey! A real adventure! The second photo has been taken at our arrival in Como, after the four days paddle.
The Captain is also known for his outstaning paddle technique, that pushes him at speeds rarely reached by normal people ;-). This way of paddling has created some new abjectives, like a Perlinian peace or a Perlinian speed ;-)).
However in the last few years our Captain is dealing with some more serious business than Sea Kayaking. His two little sons are draining his free time as all the children do, however i hope to see him paddle again soon ;-).
Note: the first photo has been taken during an important and very philosopical discussion about the true nature of the red liquid in our glasses. If anyone of you is wandering about our headgear i have to tell you that yes: they are panties!

Sicuramente all'altezza di blasonate pubblicazioni estere. ;-)

In the dark sky of Italian Sea Kayaking books a new star is shining! Finally the book:
"Il Kayak da Mare - Divertirsi in Sicurezza"(literally: Sea Kayaking - Having fun safetly) has been published. This is an important event for the Sea Kayaking community. It's the first modern book about sea kayaking published in italy, and i think it's an important sign that the sport is growing in popularity and importance. If someone would like to buy the book, this can be done directly writing me an email or visiting the site of Sottocosta (www.sottocosta.it)

Elezioni FICK

CHI E' TATIAANAAA?!?!?!?

E' l'amica mia brava in kayak!

Here in italy a popular comic make us lough asking to the public: Tatiana, Who is Tatiana? and then he shouts with some absurd inormation with his freind Tatiana. The title of this post reminds to this sort of italian humorism; however Tatiana Cappucci is a very serious and skilled Sea Kayaker. She has an full featured curriculum with all the major Sea Kayak Awards available here in Italy.I would like to give her a warm welcome here in this blog, and to see soon a new first post from her.

W.I.S.K.E.I. Gallery

buona visione!

Guys here you are some photos taken yesterday during the short paddle we had.
http://picasaweb.google.com/larioseakayak/WISKEI2007/
I know these posts are quite short and not well done, but in this period i really do not have any time!

W.I.S.K.E.I. !!!!!!!!

Every year in this period many italian kayakers are used to meet at the W.I.S.K.I.E. (Winter Italian Sea Kayak Event), an important kayak meeting that happens in Liguria; between La Spezia and Bocca di Magra. The meeting is two days long, on saturday normally we paddle from Bocca di Magra and Lerici, and than the way back. On Sunday we start from Le Grazie and we paddle around the island Palmaria, via Portovenere. On Saturday evening there's a huge dinner with serveral tipical dishes of Liguria. This year the program had a little variation, the program of the two days has been inverted. On saturday was a bit cold but the sea was quite good, on Sunday the weather got worse so just a small groups of kayakers (of course i was with them ;-) you can see the photo of the group just above) decided to do a short paddle. We paddled from Le Grazie to the Cavern of Byron just after Portovenere. I enjoied very much the paddle, the sea was easy and i had quite fun :-).A very big THANK YOU to the great Luciano Belloni, the person that every year make this meeting possible.

Andrew McAuley

________________________________________________________________

Today i post reminding you to another blog, the one from Wenley ( http://onkayaks.squarespace.com ); i do this to echo this post about Andrew McAuley. I have to admin i didn't know Andrew as a kayaker, but his story made me very sad. Not only because of how it happened, nearby at the end of his incredible adventure, but even for the humen side of this tragedy... I thought about his wife and his little son several times this year, and every time i do so i think this story is very sad. As you know this is the web site of Andrew: http://www.andrewmcauley.com/.

Hand rolling

___________________________________________________________

The eschimo roll is certainly the master manouvre for a kayaker! Every guy that sits in a kayak, sooner or later at least try to learn to roll it. As you know there are several different type of rolls, perhaps more than one hundred. I have never been a fanatic of this manoeuvre, i think i red somewhere that "an expert kayaker is one who can roll at firts attempt in rough seas" and this is exactly wat i tried to do in these years of sea kayaking. However in the past evening spent at the swimming pool, encouraged by some friends, i tried hand rolling. I thought it was a very difficult manoeuvre, but in few attempts i managed to roll my kayak in this way! In he next days i hope to post some videos. The next one is the storm roll (executed in a perfect way!)

About Freya / A proposito di Freya

http://freyahoffmeister.blogspot.com/

http://www.cackletv.com/blog.html
____________________________________________________________________

Some time is passed since my last post about Freya. I read on her blog she passed the half way mark, and i think this is already an outstanding acheivment! She is proceeding at an outstanding peace (at least for me!) and i hope everything will continue in this way, even if she has to deal with the easterlies now. As many of you know, this is the link to her blog: http://freyahoffmeister.blogspot.com/ if you don't check it regulary i strongly encourage to do it, reading her post day by day is really amazing. It's like reading a beatifoul book while the author is writing it!
I don't have news from the other to kayakers that are planning to do this trip too. These are their links:

As soon as i have further news from them i will post.

I finally made it, the photoes of the past excursion in Novate Mezzola are online:

Note for the English readers: Guys i'm posting in italian because the blog i'm referring to is only in italian. The very nice thing is how it's written and i can't translate it in a proper way ;-).

____________________________________________________________________

Checking and parsing logs is sometimes part of my work, so i do this even for this blog. During the past month (november) we had 340 visits by 145 visitors, it's not an outstanding result but it's not so bad. Let's see how we perform on dicember.

Novità all'orizzonte

____________________________________________________________________

After the failed excursion on Lake Ceresio i accepted the invitation of the guys of GECKO. I had fun with them paddling in the small Lake of Garlate and i noticed some differences between my way of kayaking and their. They have a river racing background and paddle quite quickly, at least at a peace i'm not used to paddling for many miles. But most of them don't use to do kayak touring for multy day trips, the thing i like most! :-) . It just made me think about the different aspects of sea kayaking, you can see this sport in so many ways...
However, great fun with the friends :-D ; i hope to join them again on this type of sunday morning paddle.

____________________________________________________________________

Another failure! The group was composed by three kayaker. One suffered an illness during the night (now everything is ok ;-) ) and another one with the alarm clock. We enjoyed a short paddle in the northern part of Lake Como during the afternoon, just because everything was already on the car. Tomorrow morning i will meet with the friends of GECKO ( http://www.inuitdellario.blogspot.com/ ) for another paddle. The last part of this year has been really a failure. Let's hope that the new year will bring a bit of luck.
